Dear all,
As you know we have an end of year Science exam in two weeks. You will need to revise everything we have studied since September. This will include:


Unit 1A- The Way We See Things
Unit 1B- Evaporation and Condensation
Unit 2A- The Life Cycle of a Flowering Plant
Unit 2B- Investigating Plant Growth
Unit 3A- Earth's Movements - we are still looking at this topic
Unit 3B- Shadows

You need to revise how to plan a fair test (factors to change/keep the same etc) and making predictions based on prior knowledge, and drawing conclusions from results.

Use your homework books and the primary homework help website (before you log into the blog on the Oakley College website) to help with your revision. The BBC Bitesize website will also assist you.

Mental Maths Revision Help

Hello everyone! We know that you would all like to be revising mental maths as much as possible, so here is a link that will help you.

Please only access the Year 4 and below Mental Maths tests, as of course we are still using the Year Five tests in class. The tests come with test papers and the answers, and they will help you to practise the sorts of questions that are in the exams in March and May.

Big Talk for Big Write

Tomorrow Year 5 will be having a big write. This term we are studying stories from other cultures. We have been studying ´Mulan´and the cultural differences in Ancient China.

The big write will be a recount of part of the story, or all of the story. You will need to tell the story either as one of the characters (1st person), or as a narrator (3rd person).

To prepare for the big write, make sure you discuss which part of the story you are going to re-tell. Also discuss which wow words you could use to decribe certain scenes, and how the characters are feeling.

The more you discuss your ideas, the easier the big write will be.

Maths Revision- Test Week Exam

Our exam week in Year 5 starts on the week of November 25th 2013- we will have 3 maths tests in total. Two of the tests will be written papers, (one will be a calculator paper) and the other will be a mental maths test. Like last year in Year 4, these tests cover everything for the year. Of course we haven't finished teaching the maths curriculum yet for Year 5, but these tests are useful to see how well you do on what we have studied. They will also give you an idea of what we will be looking for over the year, with regards to the rest of the curriculum. Some questions you will find tricky, (that's ok, just try your best) and many you should find ok.
Please don't panic about these tests, we just want you to try your best, and really show us what you have learned in maths. Remember, maths is a subject where knowledge is built upon lesson after lesson, year after year. Therefore, some of the questions you may have to answer, you may already be familiar with, especially from Year 4. Think about the strategies and methods you have learned, and try to apply them when you are doing the tests. Think: what is the question asking me to do? What operation do I have to use? Do I need to write any units of measurement? You should always go back and check your work at the end if you have time- it's amazing the marks you can pick up just from doing this!
